Katrina Dallamore

After studying illustration, Katrina worked for several years as an illustrator before moving into graphic design where she ran DW Design for many years. Later she gained a DTLLS teaching qualification and taught Art and Design in Thanet College and HMS Swaleside Prison for four years. The death of Katrina’s mother motivated her to apply for her degree in Fine Art at Canterbury Christ Church University which she will complete in June 2017.

Katrina is exploring contrast and formalist colour ideas with a reductive, absolute approach in a gridded setting, where almost everything is taken away and then reintroduced with consideration.

Employing a traditional methodology in the mediums of oil painting and silk screen printing, her work explores the relationship of a limited palette of greys in a square motif to create contrast and form, experimenting with frames within frames and the playful misregistrations of colour. The paintings are presented on square structures which support a linen canvas prepared using rabbit skin glue followed by oil primer. The prints employ acrylic paint on standard paper, masking tape and hand cut paper stencils are used to create clearly defined shapes with clean edges for both the paintings and silk screen prints.

On completion of her BA Katrina will commence a Masters by Research at Canterbury Christ Church University.
