Georgie Childs
I am not an artist; I am a visual campaigner. I am political; my work is a message in a world full of conflict and distaste. My art opens a platform for debate, discussion and communication. “An image says a thousand words”. Imagery is another universal language unto itself.

The politics of my work; not everyone will love it but I’m not here for a popularity contest, I’m aiming to give a voice to causes that are little heard or have no platform. In the current political climate, everything is at risk; your rights, my rights, everything.
Previous work has included rape survivors, child sex abuse, childbirth and the placenta, miscarriage, other women’s issues and genocide. Thematically, I would say I work with the vulnerable and sensitive in society. I want to socially include groups which are usually expelled from that category.
This project has been on the tarnished state of current societal affairs; about the imperfections in the nation and how we see them; the pothole and roadway a metaphor of this.

Metaphor is something that I use often in my practice along with process-based methods in printmaking; repetition and working with alternative mediums. Predominantly I use silkscreen as it is highly manipulative and can be used with such a variety of materials. An image that makes the viewer stop and think is all I aim for. Perspective; we all have a viewpoint; my objective is for you to see things in another light and perhaps walk away with questions rather than answers.
