Georgina Dunn
Since coming to university and being introduced to ceramics I have found a real affinity with clay. I have always enjoyed design and making for interiors and so I have used clay to create objects and lighting for the home. I am concerned with the aesthetic but also want my work to be functional in a very individual way.
Nature and its building blocks have been my source of inspiration – I particularly love repetitive geometric structures such as beehives, they are functional yet beautiful.
To construct my work I have mainly designed die-plates to make cellular extrusions, which I can join and sculpt to reveal the more complex interiors. I have been able to construct quite large stable forms using this method. I have used a combination of clays and firing processes including Raku.
Our environment and the objects we choose to live with and use can add great value to our everyday existence and enhance our lives.
