I have a holistic view of life. What we do, what we say, how we live, what we think are all undeniably connected. The artefacts humans have made are intrinsically linked to our beliefs, our culture and our sense of place.
Clay and glaze materials are dug from the earth, the firing processes are akin to the evolution of our world; the kiln makes rocks out of mud. Making in clay involves both hand and mind. It makes me slow down and immerse myself in the process. Making can be meditation.
I am drawn to nature and man-made artefacts that seem to embody our connections with the earth, both seen and felt. Standing stones in particular are a fascinating source of inspiration because they pose a silent majestic presence in the landscape.
I hope to imbue my work with these contemplative qualities.
