Jessica Humphreys

Jessica Humphreys is an artist who experiments with various media, in both 2D and 3D, allowing her to approach her subjects from different angles, mixing    modern and traditional materials, even including soft sculpture at times, looking for the shock of unfamiliarity in the search for resolution.

In her current work she mainly employs acrylic on canvas to depict non-specific mythological scenes, although she draws together her theme using mapping drawings in ink, which help to locate the myths and legends regionally and psychologically. These drawings are made up of a mixture of old and new, showing the connection between the past and present.

Drawing on a tradition that includes Grimm’s Fairy Tales, Little Red Riding Hood, Homeric saga, the films of Guillermo Del Toro, Goya’s Black paintings, Jessica documents generic mythological types in an attempt to make the invisible world visible.
