Helen Gardner
Studying Fine and Applied Art with Marketing for my degree means I take a commercial view of art. I have been set various creative briefs over the last year and I have adapted my work to fit with the company or message. I have responded to briefs by considering specific audiences and the context in which the work is used.
I have looked for the general feeling the work should convey - nostalgic, threatening, or even quirky - and tried to apply it to my final images. I work in a variety of analogue mediums, predominantly watercolour and pencil, and then adapt it through Photoshop and Illustrator. I want to appeal to the target audience in an original and crafty way.

I have been experimenting with finding my style throughout the year and have tried to develop an adaptable graphic approach. Recently I have found a way to combine my interest in textiles (I have been making embroidery hoops for friends and family) with my art work through a brief to create accessories for a fashion company and I am finding new ways to apply this stitching style to make images that I can use in Illustration.
