With an eye for detail in painting I display my ideas in a three-dimensional ceramic form as I enjoy a tactile method of making.
I mainly work in porcelain, using throwing, coiling, slip-casting and hand building techniques to make the forms. I use oxides and underglaze stains to paint on the surface, usually in conjunction with a transparent glaze.
I have a love of traditional pottery and its uncomplicated and ubiquitous association with our lives. I have combined this with my interest of human nature and the complexities and fragility of the human mind, including my own.
Imagining these objects sitting on a household shelf forgotten and collecting dust, they each appear singular and alone with their inner torments and anxieties. I envisage each piece is a character, visually representing concealed internalised feelings and thoughts of the individual, each responding differently to the pressures and limitations of society.
I intend to continue developing my ceramic skills, mainly in throwing by working alongside a thrower in the form of an internship to fully learn the ground skills of pottery so I can express the ideas that impassion me.
